Today we started late again. We still have to work out our routine… We had a breakfast in the nearby town of Chinchila and set off to torment our backsides some more. Along the way we had a swim in a local swimming pool. I probably haven’t seen a swimming pool water so clear before. It was great! And guess what… We were the only two customers while the temperature was about 35 degrees Celsius! From the lifeguard supervising the pool we learned that apparently it is the end of the season and they will be closing in two weeks time. End of season!? Com’on… it was still so hot outside. Actually I don’t think it ever gets cold here anyway.
My cigarette lighter power supply for the GPS stopped working. I dismantled it and discovered that the coil that is inside was basically hanging there on the two wire ends only and so it was not surprising that I rattled it off after just one day of use. I can’t believe that they can come up with a gadget that is made for the purpose of having it in a vehicle and be so stupid to not put the coil in some kind of a sturdy bracket that would stop it from moving! Thankfully I am quite skilled in this electronics stuff so I could repair it. If only I could get my hands on a soldering iron.
After we arrived to Roma (the one in Queensland… ;) ) I asked for a motorbike shop since I also decided to get a tank bag, which would help me to transfer at least part of the weight from the back to the front. We found it and the guys there were great. They lent me a soldering iron with solder, fast drying glue and a bit of celastic that I asked for. Apart of that they gave us lots of very handy advises about the bikes, camping possibilities etc. Thanks to them we found a camp in Mitchell that is actually free for the first two nights and you can still use all the amenities. Excellent. We had a shower, dinner and went to bed.
The landscape is slowly changing to a more arid type. We were actually told that we are lucky to see grass there since they had a four year drought which had only been broken couple of weeks ago so now everything is green. It was all only red before we were told.
