We got up quite early since we had over 460km in front of us today. We wanted to see the sunset at Uluru. Before we could leave though we had to go back to the city to get a recharger for my still camera battery, as the recharger I have is not recharging it. They don’t have it though!! They don’t even have a replacement battery that I could buy! That is a scare as it is clear that we will want to take lots of pictures in Uluru, especially after making such a long demanding trip across half of the continent and mostly through desert.

Well, we made it. The kilometers are now clocking seemingly unbelievably fast after we got used the “desert speed”. We took a few photos from around “the rock” as well as from the “sunset viewing area” during sunset. It was pretty cloudy today so we were lucky to get the sun shining through a few gaps in the clouds on the horizon. The camera still works although we can’t check out the photos as I switched off the display to save the batteries.

We are now camped in the Ayers Rock Camping Ground at Yulara – the only camp you can go to as there is no other around for hundreds of kilometers and free camping in the bush is not allowed as this is an Aboriginal land and a national park. The camping costs AU$ 15.60 pp/pn while the facilities are basically the same as in the camp we stayed in in Alice Springs.

Oh, I’m forgetting the cost of fuel. It is around 1.1 to 1.3 / l around here.
