Bike arrived, problems picking it up |
Today I missed the alarm clock beeping - what a surprise after yesterday. When I got up later I had to make a few calls to Australia. Why? Because…
I was supposed to be picking my bike up from Port Kelang today. However, thanks to Swire Shipping I am not. Why is that? Well, when I was arranging the shipping with them and wanted to pay them they said that I can’t pay them in Darwin and that I will have to pay the agency in Port Kelang before I would be able to pick the bike up from the port. Well, last Friday (which was the day my bike physically arrived into Port Kelang) I received an e-mail from Swire that I will actually not be able to pay for the shipping here in Malaysia and that I have to pay them in Australia… DOUGHH!! Like I didn’t want to do it that way in the first place. Well, it is probably much bigger fun to let me wait in Malaysia for three weeks thinking that all is all right and only let me know on the day of arrival that it is not. The “funniest” thing about that is that they will first have to receive the money on their account before the bike can be released to me. And they can’t accept credit cards…
So I tried to transfer the money to Swire on Saturday. However, I have apparently forgotten my password for external bank account transfers and managed to lock myself out of the system until my bank can reset it… Great, so now I had to try to get somebody from my second family in Australia to pay it for me as soon as possible. That is what I was trying to arrange today.
The invoice was paid today so now I have to hope payment will actually show up on Swire account tomorrow. I’ll be taking the first bus to Kuala Lumpur and from there to Port Kelang and will try to get my bike, so that I can finally start riding Asia.
At noon I went to the Internet lounge again, determined to make the site finally work. At the end of the day I have spent about 13 hours there!! There were problems with the database being re-created on the web server not exactly how it was designed. You see, my provider doesn’t allow full database upload (backup & restore) and only allows scripts (DTS) (it is running SQL server for those that might have at least the slightest idea of what I’m talking about… ;-) ).
Anyway, now the website is running, even though I expect a few bugs to pop up since I had very little time to test it. You can help solving them by reporting any misbehavior of the site when you encounter it.
