I have circled the peninsula in the morning. What I discovered was that the Oz girl that I talked to in Krabi was right – there is really nothing much to justify the hype of this being “THE” tourist destination. The city and almost the whole peninsula are too developed, it is full of tourists and residents and it has what seem to me pretty ordinary beaches. To get to one of them from the Phuket town takes quite a while too and you will need some wheels. Of course if you really look you can find quite pretty spots everywhere... I admit I didn't have too much time for this.
The only worthwhile spot that I identified was the Phromtep Cape which offers some nice views towards a couple of nearby rocky islands and towards one of the beach resorts on the other side. However, if you are going for holiday to lay yourself on a beach than this might not be a bad destination, as it offers lots of services like thousands motorbikes and cars for hire, I also saw some elephant tracking etc. Nothing for me though. Krabi seemed much lovelier a place to me even if I wanted to lay myself on a beach. It at least offers some really nice views towards the many limestone outcrops sticking out from the sea and you can take one of the long-tail boats to get you to them.
