Early in the morning I went to the office that was next on the list. Before I tell you how I went though I have to tell you about the family in whose house I stayed this night.
This family, consisting of mum, dad and two sons, one of which is majorly physically and mentally disabled, has converted their tiny three storey house with one small room per floor into a guesthouse having two rooms for rent. This, as I was to realize later, effectively leaves the whole family only one room of about 4x5 meters to live in. The space is made smaller by things like staircase leading to the rooms for rent, fridge and some basic furniture. However no tables, no chairs and no beds can be found there. They eat and sleep on the floor, having only a small towel to separate them from it. I had to wake the mother and the father up in the morning as the mother slept next to the main door to the house and the father next to the fridge where I put my milk in the evening. When you than witness how the mother helps the about 20 years old disabled son to pee into a bottle it strikes you just how poor these people are. And they get mere 3 dollars a night for the room they can’t use. I didn’t feel too comfortable seeing and realizing this.
OK, back to my troubles. I couldn’t get into the police building again but the girls in the immigration department on the same address were trying to find out what I needed to do to finally get some results. And so I was referred to yet another address. This time it was ministry of customs. There I continually worked my way up to the directory himself. He phoned to a few places and gave me a few pages of text with few highlighted parts in it for the staff at the border. What I was instructed to get was a letter from my embassy and get back to the border with all of that.
Another low point followed. The foreign affairs section of the consulate was closed due to some operational reasons and they re-open tomorrow at 3:30PM. Tomorrow is Friday so I will not be able to do anything else as all the local offices will be closed by the time I get anything from the embassy. That also means that I will be stuck here for at least another 3 days over the weekend… :-((
